Taal Lokaal West

"With each new language, you live a new life. If you know only one language, you live only once." Czech proverb

At Taal Lokaal West, we believe learning Dutch is far more than mastering words and grammar, it’s stepping into a new world.
Our goal is not only to teach you Dutch, but to open the doors to Dutch culture, everyday life and that uniquely Dutch sense of humour.

You won’t find dusty textbooks here. Instead, you’ll speak, interact and grow together.
Because real Dutch isn’t learned “by the book” it’s lived, breathed and shared.

Maikel

I’ve spent a large part of my life traveling the world, exploring different languages and cultures. While living in Bolivia, I fell in love with a local language school, a vibrant place with great people. Learning a new language there wasn’t just about the classroom, it was also about making fiends and having a lot of fun.

That experience stuck with me. At Taal Lokaal West, we want to recreate that same warm, welcoming vibe. I take care of the organisation, our Language Café, events, and excursions, making sure your whole learning journey is not just educational, but truly memorable. Always up for a chat, just come say hi!

Gillis

I’m Gillis, an experienced Dutch teacher and author of history books and magazines. As a true Amsterdammer, born and raised in the city, I know its secrets and customs inside out. Having travelled around the world, I appreciate cultural diversity and bring that perspective into my teaching.

In my classes, I explain complex material clearly and understandably. The sessions are structured with clear goals, and I tailor my approach to different language levels. I listen actively, communicate clearly, and pay close attention to your pronunciation. I’ll make sure your questions and curiosities are thoroughly answered.

Patience is one of my strengths, so feel free to ask the same question more than once! As a true Dutchman, I believe in creating a relaxed and positive learning atmosphere.
